INTERVIEW QUESTIONS › WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS?

How to answer “Where do you see yourself in five years?.”

It tests direction without locking you in. Here is the shape of a strong answer, then rehearse yours out loud.

THE SHAPE OF A STRONG ANSWER

01

Point at problems, not titles

The kind of work you want to be doing. A title invites them to tell you the ladder does not look like that.

02

Tie it to this role

The growth this job obviously offers, so the answer is about them as well as you.

03

Be honest

A rehearsed non-answer is obvious, and this is a question people genuinely have views on.

What most people get wrong: they answer with a job title and a number of years, which is either a promise nobody can keep or an ambition that does not fit the team.
